Powerball With the nation's largest starting jackpot of $40 million, a $1 million match-5 prize and great overall odds, Powerball is packed with player extras. Plus, you can boost your prize payout by adding Power Play®.

HOW TO PLAY

1. Choose one of the three following options to play Powerball®:
    1. On a Powerball playslip, mark five numbers from 1 through 59 and one number from 1 through 35, using black or blue ink only. You can play up to 5 different sets of numbers on each playslip (A - E). Each Powerball play costs $2.

    2. Mark the Quick Pick (QP) box to have your Powerball numbers randomly generated for you on each board (A-E). A Powerball play slip lets you choose Quick Pick for the first set of numbers, the Powerball number or both sets of numbers.

    3. Ask the retailer for Quick Pick for your Powerball numbers -- up to 10 plays on one ticket.

2. You may play the same sets of numbers for 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, or 20 consecutive drawings by marking the appropriate MULTIDRAW box. Or, when purchasing a Powerball Quick Pick, ask the retailer for the number of drawings you want to play, up to 20 drawings.

3. Add POWER PLAY®! For an extra $1 per board per draw, mark the POWER PLAY box to increase any nonjackpot winnings to a set amount, up to $2 million! Or, ask the retailer for POWER PLAY when purchasing a Quick Pick ticket. (See prize chart for Power Play replacement prizes.)

Check your playslip carefully Powerball tickets cannot be cancelled.

Jackpot Prize

The Powerball jackpot prize starts at $40 million and rolls, based on sales, by a minimum of $10 million each drawing until it is won.

The advertised Powerball jackpot represents an estimate of the annuity amount, which is paid in 30 graduated annual installments that will increase by 4 percent each year by a percentage set out in the Powerball game directive. The first installment is paid at the time the prize is claimed. Winners also have the option to take a one-time lump sum payment equal to the cash value of the jackpot prize pool. The cash value represents the amount of money the Lottery would have invested to provide the 30-installment annuity option. Visit
Powerball's Web site for the cash value of the current jackpot.

Jackpot prizes will be available for payment after the 15th calendar day following the drawing, and winners have 60 days from the date of claim to decide on a payment option. Jackpot prizes are pari-mutuel and are divided equally among all jackpot-winning tickets.  All prize payments are subject to federal and state tax withholding as required by law.

THE DRAWING

Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday. Make sure you buy your tickets for each Powerball drawing by 9 p.m. on the day of the drawing. Tickets purchased after 9 p.m. on drawing nights will be valid for the next drawing(s).  Powerball winning numbers are displayed on participating television stations every Wednesday and Saturday night and updated on this website.

HOW TO WIN

These prize charts apply to Powerball drawings beginning Jan. 18. For prizes that apply to Powerball drawings prior to Jan. 18, please see Winning Information page that corresponds to that drawing in the Winning Numbers section of our website.
